Sambaa K'e, formerly known as Trout Lake, is located on the sandy shores of, you guessed it, Trout Lake. This placid, traditional Dene settlement of about 100 is famous for its fishing. In addition to Trout, anglers can also expect to find Walleye, Pike and Arctic Grayling.
The community dates back to the late 1960s when a school and other services were established, but the local Slavey Dene fishers, hunters and trappers had been using this idyllic site for centuries before that.
Access Sambaa K'e by air from Fort Simpson or Hay River, or by winter road.
